Cardboard Doll Chair

NO SEW CHAIR PATTERN

This will make a chair with a finished size of  5" x 8-1/2" x 7-1/2" for a medium size doll. I started out making the frame from a cardboard box because it is sturdy enough with hot glue for a cute little chair. Cut all these pieces out of corrugated cardboard for the chair base.

1 large chair back (from pattern)
1 chair bottom 5-1/4" x 4-3/8"
1 seat 8" x 4-1/2"
1 chair seat front piece 5-1/4" x 2"
2 circles for the arm ends 1-1/2"
2 arms that you will have to fold into a round shape. Cut 2 pieces 4-1/2" x 8" and mark a line at 5". Make sure the cardboard lines run through the width of the short sides so the cardboard arms and the seat will bend the arms to shape. (see pictures below)

Bend the top of the chair arms over at every other line and hot glue the end at 5" and set aside. You can shape it later. The seat is folded 1-1/2" on both ends and glued onto the arm pieces at the bottom. Then the arms and seat piece is glued onto the chair back piece. Notice the direction of the corrugated lines for folding on the arms and seat.

Then the seat front piece and chair bottom pieces are glue on. Then cut and glue on the arm end circles.

FABRIC COVERING

Once the chair is put together, the arms are covered in fabric first. Cut the pieces about an inch wider and longer by holding up the fabric to the arms. Snip the curves and glue making sure to cover all the edges of the cardboard. You can cut a strip of fabric on the bias to ease it over the curve of the chair back.

Now use the pattern pieces to cut out heavy card stock like cereal box weight card. You will need to recut all the pieces in card except for the chair arms. Cut the seat piece down in cardstock to about 5" x 4-1/2" and trim to fit.

Now cover all the cardstock pieces with fabric. This is where you can add fluff or cotton batting to the seat and back if you want before you glue the edges down. You will want to fit and trim each piece for a snug fit before covering with fabric.

Once the fabric is on all the card stock pieces you just glue them right onto the cardboard of the chair to cover up all the end pieces. Once the bottom is glued on you can add legs to the chair if you want. I used wooden blocks but you can also use wooden beads or push pins.

You can also make a cute pillow with a little bit of stuffing and a glue gun to make your chair look comfy. And now it's ready for your doll. My pug is just chillin' next to her new retro frig from the DT.

The pattern for the chair back can be found in the templates section. You might want to straighten up that dotted line on the pattern a little before you cut it out. OOPS! (artist can't draw a straight line) 😬
